Windows 7 Fun
Hi
Kinda won and lost....
Bought a new graphics card, well refurbished, and slotted in and the
computer is fixed. I am so confident that it is fixed I have put the
case back together and put away my screw drivers. Thats the good news.
The bad news is that the image that I have from HP that is supposed to
restore the factory settings does not work. I get the following at a
command line window ..
In the C SYSTEM sav Utilities folder Post Process
Failed.... CallValidateImage cmd, De10dometer cmd, gmpe cmd, Reset cmd
all copyright Hewlett Packard which I guess means it cannot vlidate the
installation as I get a message that I should WAIT for PMP to complete
Do GM2PP Pass 2 but then asked to reboot and then I get the message that
Windows could not complete the installation... And as you know you don't
get a disc with anything Microshite these days.
I had no real choice other than to resinstall the OS given that I was
cycling through black screens and could not even get to system restore
or safe mode. The machine appeared to be working to a degree as I was
able to get to the Windows welcome screen. But when it crashed it could
have been a failed OS. How was I to know that the factory image wouldn't
work.
I have climbed the first barrier and cleared it and now I move onto the
next. I never give up. I will have this machine running again on
Windows7. I have set up two XP machines next to me and currently am
setting up the brain. I have to have a certain amount of functionality.
The old XP machine will not perform some of what I now need to do and I
am using another HP desktop with a lot more grunt but first need to copy
and configure files. I have a number of USB drives working their magic
and ploughing through. I run these machines on my own local network with
no connection to the internet. Thats eight computers plus the Amiga so I
can find most things. Problem comes with drive letters and the way local
web pages have been written. They all target specific folders, drawers,
so change the drive letter and your furked. Last night I had a USB drive
fall over cus it was using software to try to link to the internet and
the XP machine wouldn't see it. So I formatted the drive, changed he
drive letter and reinstalled the brain.
Anyway... bit closer. At least the computer is fixed. The NVIDIA cost
£45 the new computer a lot more than that. Wish I had waited now. Ar
hum. Cuppa tea me thinks. Need to get back onto the Amiga to cheer me up.
.... oooohh look I have an alert to update my account details. ' I CANT
CUS BLOODY MS WONT SEND ME THE VALIDATION EMAIL ' I really don't know
what else I can do. Thinks.. switch the thing off. This computer has
been on like for maximum an hour in over a week now. I just can't be
using the thing. Better go.
