A1200 Heaven
Andrew
Readers of this group will know how uneasy I was in the 2000s when
Microsoft changed the TCP protocol with XP leaving the port open. Add to
this the need for broadband and the death of dial up and in truth it was
only a matter of time before computers were going to be used as an open
gateway into your world for adverts and the like. I mean I can recall
the days at work when we just got streamed with fax adverts and the
like. Postal adverts were and still are a continuous stream of junk. The
phone and computer just make targeting that much easier. My gripe is
when the shite flows out around the edges of the browser. Its one thing
to be confronted with adverts in browsers, its another to have the stuff
filling up your desktop.
When I fired up Windows 10 I felt like Sheldon Cooper being forced to
sit in a spot other than his favourite place on the couch..... ' No,
that's not gonna work '. It wasn't just that I didn't like the
interface, but you really could feel the open doors all over the place.
I had no idea what others could do in terms of accessing my stuff. I
mean the first few windows from MS asking you to approve their
activities, blatantly advised that they were going to collect all that
you said and read to better understand your activities so they could
customise your computing time. In simple terms if you like cake they
will try to sell you cake. How does that make them any different to any
company trying to flog you things. I mean the RAC are better advised
when they actually know everyone that owns a car than try to flog cover
to nine year olds with a pedal cycle. Obvious 'init.
I like my computer time a little more relaxed, uncluttered and devoid of
watching eyes. My perfect world has always been the Amiga.. it really is
heaven. Windows 98 wasn't too bad when I was on dial up as I only was
online when I chose to be online. Now I have reached a dead end with
Windows10. That thing was just unusable. Like I say, if I wanted a
mobile phone I would go get one. Times have moved on and for the first
time I actually think I'm not likely to upgrade. Windows 10 can stay in
its box. I have 7 running fine again and so happy I guess. I had this
dilema with the A1200 about fearing it breaking some day. I sense I need
to start stockpiling Windows 7 kit. So funny
