Live Mail

Hi

Sadly because I had to reinstall Windows 7 and sadly because Microsoft
no longer support their 'Live' software that came with the original
machine I lost Windows Live Mail and Windows Movie Maker. Neither are
supported. You can get bogus copies from one of those download sites
that put junk on your computer, but hey.

Movie Maker was so simple to use and I could edit and put text on the
videos. It really was a peach. Live Mail had its issues but the format
was more like a simple file manager and all the functionality was from
left and right click without having to go through a stream of pointless
menus , submenus and settings etc. Kinda one click and away.

Trouble now is I'm stuck with Thunderbird which for me is a real pain.
The main problem is that like Live Mail my mail provider just refuses to
believe the mail is authentic so junks me out and refuses to log. You
can try again and probably after the third go you get in. That's
something I live with BUT with Live Mail I got a notification bar that
basically ran up so far and then kicked out when it was not retrieving.
With Thunderbird you sometimes get a green bar at the bottom, but very
often it just sits there dead. So is it checking or isn't it. No idea. I
have five accounts so I run through the inboxes and click get mail but
nothing and then after a while I get a refused access. BUT which mail
account? No way of knowing. There is no progress bar and no wording
stating checking which accounts. So the only way to clear is to actually
send a mail from one of my accounts to one of my other accounts copied
into one of my other accounts and then the mail starts to work and the
green bar works and I can check my mails. I know its a BT issue, my
gripe is not knowing if the thing is doing anything and whether its
checking mails.

Also when writing mail that takes a while I get a notification of unable
to send draft. Pointless.

Also the settings are a pig, the layout too convoluted. .. that's a
Firefox/Thunderbird classic issue on both counts. Silly bars and menus
and submenus etc etc. Just stick a simple line of menus at the top with
everything linked... Firefox doesn't even default to top menus. You
know, like in Amiga style. Its not difficult. You have left hand, right
hand, top hand etc etc links that drive me bonker. Or just stick
everything from a right click. And to get properties on mails is
pointless. Its not like MS where you can track the full mail history and
links to all servers where the mail came from and the OS etc. Its very
limited. Source is just very basic.

I have been looking around for another mailer, something like Outlook
Express or YAM. I aint paying for a mailer and I just don't want to
infect the machine. I aint also buying any crappy MS Office software.
Seems like I'm stuck with crappy Thunderbird now. Until I can find
something else.
