Freedom

George Michael once sang about Freedom on his track from the album
Listen Without Prejudice 1990 that featured a plethora of supermodels.
Today my very wonderful Pioneer tape deck arrived which I very
quickly hooked up and with my big SONY wireless headset was soon
joying in the wondrous sounds of George and Freedom.

And so back to the beginning of the nineties and a truly magical
time , not just for computers but for , well, everything. Music
was inspirational and fashion was in its Supermodel phase with
the likes of Gianni Versace turning catwalks into dance stages.
The shows rocked with songs like Freedom and Too Funky all
featuring the catwalks best and most expensive. And Gianni Versace
is still the worlds greatest fashion designer, even though like
George is sadly no longer with us.

And to tape... I love cassettes. They were the first truly
transportable music media. Every time I bought a new record and
or later CD, I would copy to tape and then carry it around with
me to play in the car and on my Walkman and even at work. I can
recall being on holiday and just lying in the sun listening to
my favourites on cassette. I have so many cassettes. At times
I would buy albums on cassette as opposed to vinyl.

The sound quality is very good. There is a depth to the sound
you just don't get on modern kit.

I am well pleased to get the tape deck up and running again and
what with the SONY Mini Disc player I have all my bases covered
again. Just magic.

So I'm listening to George Michael and Paul Young and having
a blast and that really is my kind of Freedom.

There was this hatch between the dining
room and the kitchen that I boarded over
and turned into a cassette store. I used
the PCW9512 to make all my own labels
and its all catalogued on that computer

The newly acquired Pioneer deck sitting atop
the HI-FI tower. Well almost. Whilst listening
to George I'm reflecting on that he would be
turning in his grave seeing that SONY there

Can you spot Marilyn Monroe ? Only one not ten
There is an Amiga link there if you think hard enough

On the video for Freedom which you
can watch on YouTube HERE
we are treated to the delights of
Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington
Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and
Tatjana Patitz who became legendary
in their day and featured on this video

George did like his supermodels
Catch even more on YouTube HERE

Linda Evangelista, Nadja Auermann, Emma Sjoberg
and Estelle Hallyday

And lets not forget the master of ceremonies
the very gifted and talented Gianni Versace
who had the good taste to feature endless
streams of these supermodels to the sounds
of George and the like. Classic days

Sadly you can't watch the catwalk
show. I have all his shows catalogued

For a gazillion reasons I cannot be without
my tape decks. Whether they are cassette
or video. The modern stuff just doesn't cut
it for me, however convenient. There was a
time when all that we did and all that we
enjoyed was conducted in total privacy, free
from any live links through prying eyes from
digital moguls. It wasn't that we were doing
anything illegal, its just that with a tape
deck, a record button and a hi-fi rack you
really did have total 'Freedom' to do just
what the hell you liked. Life really did exist
in a better place without telephones and the
bloody internet . You should try it.

Naomi's best
