Entry 18th January 2020: Post 01: Street Fighter - In search of Cammy.

Street Fighter - In search of Cammy.

If you visit the Amiga forums you will at some point come into
contact with Cammy who to all intense and purposes looks like the
very spitting image of the character with the same name in the
popular game Street Fighter. This intrigued me as to when Cammy
first appeared in Street Fighter.... so here goes.

Street Fighter started its life as an arcade game back in 1985.
Designed by Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto and at first
using only street fighter Ryu. The aim being for Ryu to compete
in worldwide martial arts tournaments. Joined at times by Ken.

In 1987 the game was ported to many of the popular computer and
console systems.

Enter Street Fighter II and a classic game on the Amiga. This was
released in 1991 and designed by Akira Nishitani and Akira Yasuda.
This truly revolutionised the game type allowing players to choose
from a variety of characters with varying fight moves. Sadly though
still no Cammy... Boohoo !!

OK enter Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, which gave
the game a complete overhaul and introduced four new characters
including the very unforgettable Cammy.

Full name Cammy White or Killer Bee was the second female character
to appear in the series. She actually debuted in 1993 as one of the
four characters introduced with Super Street Fighter II. She also
appears in the Street Fighter Alpha games. She holds the title as
a deadly assassin or less complementary a ' doll ' though turned
MI6 operative for the British government.

She can be seen in the animated movie of Street Fighter II. So
popular is our Cammy that she also has featured in various comics
including the crossover series Marvel vs Capcom. In truth she has
become probably the most popular character of the series.

If you want to read more about Cammy I suggest you google the
Wiki dedicated to both Cammy and Street Fighter.

Street Fighter was and still is one of the most popular games ever
for the Amiga. In my years of collecting Amiga kit and disks I
found bootleg copies of Street Fighter in so many kids collections.
Normally Crystal Cracked. I found the game way more user friendly
than the annoying disk swapping Mortal Kombat. And certainly Cammy
always made the later version a fantastic joy to play. I can see
why folk get hooked on the character. She is a fight game icon.

Probably the most famous Cammy fan and Amiga fan is Moya Jackie
who is from Australia and was interviewed here ... [see link below].
I don't think I have ever seen anyone represent the character
so realistically. I was amazed the first time I caught up with
Cammy whilst posting on the forums. Like I say you can read an
interview with her in the link below. I trust she doesn't mind
me featuring her here.

An interview with Moya Jackie or Cammy. Anyhoo if you have never played Street Fighter, in what ever version, then what are you waiting for.

F I G H T

One sad aspect of carrying out this review was in discovering the article in CU Amiga about the demise of The One magazine. Though not a heavy purchaser of the magazine I was well aware of its pages. For me I tended to buy games so never dabbled in the reviews and cover disks. Still a shame and marked yet one more loss to the Amiga publications line.

Street Fighter - In search of Cammy.

Later versions of the game.
