Well that didn't work
Hi
I have given up with the GVP side car. This little driller tool was a
complete failure. I finished up completely drilling off the heads of the
five screws and still the metal tray holding the hard drive is firmly
stuck to the base of the sidecar. Rock bloody solid.. trust me. There is
nothing else to drill out short of drilling straight through the screw
and that goes into the hard drive and I aint doing that. I now believe
that the screws are embedded into a screw bolt that is mechanically
fixed to the drive and holds the bottom casing in place. It seems that
the screws are just there to hold the element in place the problem is
the bolts that act as a kinda spacer between the drive, interface board
and bottom shielding. The whole thing is solid. I have nothing to work
with. I can't get a spanner in onto the spacer bolts cus of the
shielding and I just cannot work out what I'm drilling. And in truth the
damage being doing isn't worth the hassle. I have never known anything
so bewildering.
The metal on the screws is just so hard and the tool didn't make any
inroads into unscrewing at all. What is odd is that the only screw I
could remove was a different colour. So was not original. I am starting
to hold a view from all my experiences of late, that when a third party
had fitted or repaired old gear they doctor the stuff so that only they
can remove it. Stops the owner mucking around. I have no idea how these
screws were set in place, but believe me, they aint coming out.
So that is that. I just have to forget the one sidecar for now. I guess
I could send it down the local garage. Trouble is the physical damage
you would do to the interface plate with the electronics on, god only
knows. And even then I can't work out what is fixed to what. Puzzling.
