Apple Yawn
Paul
I watched a video on YouTube about taking the Apple apart and it says
how easy it is to remove that top. I had no such luck and I sense there
is a mechanical fixing somewhere. I didn't bother looking too hard as
the machine was working.
On all these older machines I would suggest clearing out the dust before
using. Also switch on in a gradual way increasing the amount of time you
have them on. The Apple, BBC and TRS all started smoking badly after a
short while. But all recovered without fault. I was amazed really that
they all work fine with no problems. But I gave them a good dust out.
Now, as I did with the Atari last night I switch on for a very short
period and then gradually get the machines warmed up. BUT.. big but if
you have working computers I would certainly give them a regular run out
if you can.
And never leave computers unattended. I learnt that one.
The Commodore PET or equiv is great for opening up. They seriously are
like lifting the hood on a car. Even have the little stick for holding
the hood up. I have one I switch on quite regularly and you can actually
see the light, like its heart, glowing brighter and brighter as it warms up.
If you think about all the earlier machines they very much became the
plaything of the owners and treated like kits that they can manipulate.
Dunno if you have ever seen the expansion string that you can add to a
Texas Instruments computer. Absolutely madness.

I couldn't rest till I found out what that circuit board did by the way.
Sounds fascinating.
