More quiet than expected

Hi

Those reading will know that I am in the throws of checking computers in
the collection to check all is working well. This week I have been
checking over tin box PCs. They may not be pretty and I guess
technically retro but if they live here they have to be working. I have
this relatively efficient HP Workstation XP4600 which was gifted to me
when we closed the office. In its time from I would say 2007-8 it was
pretty much hammered up to 2014. Grunt machine for AutoCAD.

This was the machine that I had to crack the password by using a USB
boot tool given that nobody could remember the original password for the
administrator. I had cleaned off the hard drive completely and had
placed the computer in store. So today I plugged her in and loaded up a
video and let it run a while. Been a hot week and feeling a bit drained
I had a rest and fell asleep having had a cuppa. I was out for like 30
minutes I guess and when I awoke I kinda expected the video music to be
playing as it was on loop, The whole area was dead. No sound from
external hard drives, fans anything. The machine was dead.

I unplugged, changed leads, plugged in from another socket. There is no
green light on the power supply. I checked the cable. No burning smells,
but if the machine was without power on the circuitry it should still
power the fan. I removed all external items and checked again but nothing.

So I wrote down the Delta Electronics power supply part number etc and
hot footed onto Ebay. Thankfully there were quite a few and cost me
£14.50. Given the computer didn't cost me anything I would say its worth
it to get the machine working again. So Tuesday then hopefully... and
yet another project. Don't you just love them.

I have to say the inside of this machine is a work of art. In pure
simplicity. All drives easily accessible. Just the main motherboard
cable connector, hard drive cable and DVD nothing conflicting to
restrict access. Not even a screw on the casing as it was a simple pull
clip. I kinda hope I can get the computer working again. I truly do hate
knowing that a computer is busted.

More no doubt when the PSU arrives.
