A1200 Hard Driving - Post 3
Hi
Such a frustrating day. I recovered three 3.5” hard drives
from what I believe were working environments. There was no
suggestion that they had problems, but I reckoned on at least
one out of the three working. What has frustrated me is that
on three different A1200’s at least two sets of different
internal cables, three ribbons I have encountered the same
annoying issue with all three. They all spin up but will not
boot. They all three halt any activity on the floppy drive
and worse they prevent any input from the mouse so I can’t
force a boot. Even after a hard reset. When I pull the ribbon
from the drive the floppy kicks in.. on three different Amigas
and all differing cables.
I have my pin 1s aligned and the power is a more substantial
brick. I just wanted to know what was on these drives. One is
a Power Computing external drive. I can’t even see the early
boot so I can force the floppy and use HDTools. The drives,
all three are killing the system start and basically killing
any use of the Amiga.
I just feel I can’t be that unlucky. Twice I have put all the
kit away and twice I have had another go. Once I remove the
drives the computer kicks in as normal, full floppy activity
and mouse functions plus the two mouse button down. The interface
with the computer is preventing any early start up so give me
some control.
If anyone has any clever ideas, I sure could do with some.
