A1200 Hard Driving
Hi
Dug out half a dozen 3.5" drives and played around. Mostly copies of my
Workbench and Work from computers, mostly the 4000, when I have upgraded the
size of drive.
Had one annoying session with a hard drive that would not appear on boot,
nor when I loaded from floppy, but would appear when I played around with HD
Tools. I started by formatting one of the volumes to see if saving the
config would do it. No luck. I then verified and checked the drive. No luck.
I then partitioned the drive and formatted each volume. No luck. I then
threw the thing out the window... Well nearly. I had spent an age changing
the size of the last partition as the format kicked out just before the end
on two occasions. Having formatted four partitions and started the install
the computer had an issue with my Workbench disk so I had to start over.
Anyway I gave up in the end. It was then I guess that I realised the drive
was dumped in the back of the cupboard. This time I wrote junk on it. Only
1GB.
Funny when you consider the size of drives. One was 85mb, one 100mb another
200mb... the kind of size of a video off YouTube, I am told.
I have a small pile of 3.5" drives now to use if I want. Great thing is that
I now know how to copy over my files from my failing A4000d. I can just wait
till the computer dies and enlist the services of Graham Frankenstein.
Been playing Settlers... I know I shouldn't. Now I have that dreaded music
whirring around in my head.
Going now.
