The retro gods hate me
Andrew
I spend a lot of time designing images for my diary and they rotate every
day. The diary is a web page on my own intranet. Navigate image to the left
is 600x300 and will be a feature for the month. Next to this is the text for
the day with links to what is going on in my world. The right is a 600x800
daily image with text and humorous content often. Its a kinda no holes
barred type of snapshot for the day which I create days before and just give
a date name so I can quickly edit the page content and like magic the images
change each day. The bottom of the page are a series of 100x150 icons
created by me with links to all my pages. I have no idea why but all my
diaries are listed in a folder called mdiary. I can go back to the dawn of
my diaries and find exactly what I did. Having the links and whole folder
links lets me view content for each period of my computer life. My folders
and files are always in the same drive name and listing so things are always
constantly available. When I get a new drive I just change it to the
previous letter and copy over the content. The only thing that changes is
the size of the drive.
In front of me sitting on top of a shelf is all my previous drives in a
line. And what I can't find on a linked direct drive resides on a computer
networked to the machine. Its a system that I have used for as long as I can
remember. From as early as the ZX81 I was writing databases and records for
everything. Before that it was paper and card indexes.... I just have to
find stuff. HTML is the best though. A true friend.
I your life is worthwhile how else are you going to remember it. Like the
single line from a favourite song a written memory can spark and relive
moments long forgotten. Bit like using the Pensieve in Harry Potter.....
' The Pensieve of Hogwarts was a magical instrument used by the Heads to
view memories. Professor Albus Dumbledore used it to review particular
memories of Tom Riddle, among other things, and to give Harry Potter private
lessons during the 1996–1997 school year. It remained in the Headmaster's
office after Dumbledore's passing, so was also used after the death of
Severus Snape by Harry Potter to review the memories Snape had given him. '
You better not get me going on gaming guides and the like. We'd be here all
night.
