Drive belt hell

Paul

I am holding in my hand a black plastic sleeve A5 folder by Armor The
Amstrad Experts labelled PROTEXT Word Processor for the Amstrad CPC464/664
and 6128. It is a 3" disk with the words PROTEXT on a blue label. There is
even the receipt from a place called MJC Supplies 2 The Arches Icknield Way
in the sum of £18.95. There is also a price list and it has the Protext ROM
for £39.95. There is also a Prospell ROM and ProMerge Plus ROM.

' Protext is without doubt the most sophisticated word processor you'll find
on any home micro. Its ease of use and advanced range of features are
normally only found in business systems costing many more times more '

On that retro comment I reflect on ' The Young Ones ' and the Four Horsemen
of the Apocalypse scene where the one asks the other ' What's new '. The
other replies ' Microchip technology... that's new '. Point being the buzz
word of ' Micro ' from microchip. A term rarely used these days as the
technology is taken for granted. We however still remember the excitement at
how such small devices could do so much. I remember taking my CSEs at school
and when we read the examination paper we all burst into hysterics as there
was a note at the top saying you could use a calculator as long as it wasn't
plugged in. None of us even new what a calculator was, armed with our log
tables and sliderules. So I guess retro and stories of old always tend to
reflect on the hoops we jumped through both in cost and actual physical
activities in terms of the technology just to do a fraction of what kids do
today on a phone. Kinda also reminds me of 42 and the Hitchhikers Guide. In
truth if we knew the purpose of life what would be the point. So having to
do what we did was the fun and today there is very little for the true micro
enthusiast other than live in the past.

Anyway I just ' RUN"DISC and Protext worked. I selected colour even they
suggested that may be a problem. Its all black and white to me. For you I
guess it was |P or |Protext.
