Been on the 6128 all night. Bit tricky with the 3" drive and owning also a
PCW cus the disks are the same but different. CPM on the PCW will not run on
the 6128. I finally found a disc that corresponded to the 6128 manual.
Strange but the length/width of a 6128 is pretty much the exact same
length/width as an A4000 keyboard. I moved the monitor over for the 4000 and
was able to slide the 6128 into the exact same space as the 4000 keyboard I
was using. The 6128 uses the CTM 644 colour monitor. This sits on top of my
metal monitor tidy that was for the 1200 but the 4000 keyboard fits snug
below. So the 6128 must be the same length/width as an A1200. Useful cus the
connectors for the 6128 fit perfectly to the monitor in this arrangement and
with a simple unplugging I can then pull the A4000 keyboard back into
action. If you know what I mean.
Anyway I guess in time I'll work out the differences in CPM. I was using CPM
2.2 but that didn't have DiscKit3 referred to in the manual. I eventually
found CPM Plus with DiscKit3 on it and formatted a data disk and copied the
CPM Plus for future use. I formatted a couple of the 3" discs for work. I
dunno what it is about the 3" drive but it feels just the way a drive should
work. You can also write on the label on end of a disk so when they are
stacked you can see exactly which disk you need. I guess that is also why I
like ZIP disks.
I found Sorcery+ and have been having a hoot and a half.
I will now keep the second set up for the Amstrad with the 6128 and further
my interests in BASIC from this computer. It really is a first rate machine.
I love the flat area over the 3" disc/k. So useful for writing notes and
having your pens and disks handy. Like having a physical workbench on you
computer keyboard. Great tool.
