A touch of the DDs - 2nd post
Hi
My bag of belts arrived and I set too fixing the Amstrad DD1. Plugged in,
deep breath and the drive made a dreadful clunk then refused to see the
disk. I turned the disk over and this time got a comforting disk noise.
Switched everything off and back on and then typed 'CAT' and like magic the
drive listed the contents of the disk. I then saved a file etc and its
working just fine. I sense the motor arm on the worm that drives the disk
may need a kick start to get it working. On the 9512 the jump of the drive
was clearly audible and for a while I thought I had an issue. Now she is
quiet as a mouse and purrs.
Next up the second 6128. This was my best 6128 and was used a lot so I
fitted the new belt and screwed up the case and was very comfortable she
would work. And she did. First time and with no issues. I jumped into the
air.. ' YES !!! '. So pleased.
And to the Atari cassette. For a little unit the belt replacement is mighty
complex. If you recall I wasn't getting any forward play or fast forward.
Took me an age to take the thing apart and rebuild. I plugged in and the
good sign was that I could fast forward and rewind the tape. I then tested
loading. It now plays the tape but sadly I am failing to load the data as I
get error messages. So I got a sledgehammer and destroyed the Atari. That
seemed to work..... er well not really. Just how I felt. I'll probably have
another go when I feel motivated to use the Atari.
In the mean time I'm fitting some extra RAM to an A1500 and ready to fit the
bridge. As you do.
