A2000 HD issues
Hi
Back end of last year the badged A2000HD finally gave up the
ghost and flipped out giving me a yellow screen, if I was lucky.
No hard drive activity and just a flashing red power light.
I placed the issue on the back burner till I could find a
suitable donor.
Today I decided to pull the Zorro II A2090 card plus the Quantum
hard drive and put in another machine to see if they were working.
I have an A1500 with the 3.1 ROM and chose this to simply plug in
and check. The machine didn’t boot to start with and then I
discovered the keyboard wasn’t working. I swapped keyboards and
tried again and same issue though this time I was able to kick
the drive with a soft from the keyboard.
On the screen Workbench 1.3.3 and DF1:???? Kickstart 40.63 and
Workbench 34.34. Strange that all the icons were inverted . All
in out and clicked to out in. But she was working.
Anyway, it will take me a while to get round to checking out the
2000HD so sadly I removed the second floppy from the A1500 ( ouch ..
hate doing that ) to make way for the Quantum. After removing the
four screws supporting the floppy cradle, the power to DF1 + ribbon
I turned the cradle over to release the four screws holding the
floppy drive. Placed the Quantum in the same place and connected
the LED black red wires and re-seated and screwed back in the cradle.
Slotted in the A2090 to the first available slot and fit the mouse
and booted up. Straight to purple disk boot screen so soft boot
from keyboard and we were in. DF1 still showing as DF1:????. Checked
SysInfo and that picked up the A2090. Also identified the hard drive
as DH2. Need to look into that. 40MB in size.
So I managed to hack a badged A2000HD and badged A1500. How bad am I.
I had to remove the plastic fascia from the one floppy as the disk
refused to eject so the A1500 looks like its been in a drunken brawl.
Sad. They will return to former glory when I get round to sorting
everything out. This way I can fire up the Quantum which I am convinced
will die if I don’t keep booting up.
So that was my afternoon. Some success.
