Amiga A2000HD - Surrogate failure

Bit of a disaster day today which I will touch on in another post
but first to the A2000HD or 1500 as it appears here. I was having
a struggle with the A2000HD ( badged as A2000HD ) cus the card
and the drive were having issues being recognised. I swapped out
the whole drive bay into an old 1500 whilst I tried to resolve
the issues with the computer.

The 1500 has been a good home albeit a bit temperamental on boot
which could be keyboard issue strangely. The computer tends to
take a couple of goes to work but always gets there. For the
2000HD I was having a green screen and that was causing the drive
to halt. In the end it was a simple case of removing the CPU and
giving the whole thing a good clean. She has been working good
as gold since and I haven't had the heart to swap the hard drive
and card back.

Today though things were very bad. I couldn't get the drive to boot
on the 1500. Normally I get a green flicker to suggest activity.
I took the computer onto the bench and removed the card etc but
nothing changed. I can hear a small murmur from the drive but the
poor thing just refuses to boot into gear. Further, the machine
will not boot to floppy with the keyboard attached.

This computer has the 3.1 ROM and I used the 3.1 hard drive install
disk to check with HDTools but no joy. SysInfo picks up the card
but not the drive. I fear she is a gonner.... sobs.

I haven't given up and will try again sometime next week. I have
other 2000s I can try out and it isn't that hard to swap out the
whole of the drive bay. Just that the hard drive is a big beast
and sits where the second floppy should be on the 1500 say.

Nothing from the hd .. so sad

Work in progress
