And today I am mostly
Hi
If you followed my fun and games with the Checkmate yesterday you will
appreciate that I only did half the job. Having copied the faulty drives
to an A1200 I now have to rebuild what was broken.
So I have dug out a 50MB GVP sidecar and a 2.0ROM Amiga 500Plus and just
booted off the old , yet quite sexy, OS1.3. I actually copied it to a
back up folder as there were some games in there that looked
interesting. And then with the computer still switched on I moved the
entire contents of the Workbench to a folder and having booted on the
2.05 disk I modified yesterday I simply copied the contents to the DH0:
and rebooted. Like magic I now have a 2.05 running on the GVP. The GVP
is a good choice because it has its own external power supply and
additional RAM.
Next up I set up DOpus and CED and edited the start-up file in S. In
truth if you are ever going to muck around on an Amiga you need
basically four things. First is a hard drive, second is some extra
memory, third is DOpusIV and number four is CED , a good text editor.
Once you have a hard drive, can manage the hard drive and write scripts
and edit mount files etc you are good to go and can do anything from
that point.
So what now.... Well I now have to set up the Parnet with the machine I
copied all my stuff to yesterday. I have already retrieved the cable.
The Checkmate is still functioning without fault. I have dug out three
double disk boxes labelled Checkmate and even found the Amiga Computing
coverdisk Issue 47 with Dragon Tiles. I also found a full back of the
hard drive but have no way of knowing what software was used to create it.
So I have all what I need to create a complete replica of the Checkmate
disks. 12. o'clock... better have my breakfast.
