Entry 24th October 2019: Post 02: BASIC Toshiba HX-10 - Part II.

BASIC Toshiba HX-10 - Part II.

Armed only with BASIC and your base home computer of the early
eighties, software came in the form of written lines of script
that you could enter into your computer and see how it works.
These programs came courtesy of computer magazines. In
future editions you got all the bug reports from users.

The joy of this is the ability to adjust the program to get a
different result. Also you would learn from the process. If you
study most of the magazine programs you will invariably come
across an RND statement at some point.

OK I was mucking around with the Toshiba HX-10, which is probably
one of the best MSX machines ever made, and I tried the old RND
for myself. Not only did I create a random series of numbers
but also random stars on the screen. How sexy is that ?

I'm not sure if those ignorant of BASIC realise the fun you can
have writing commands in and instantly seeing what they do. It
is the power of the mind over machine. It was that level of
control that drew me to computers in the first place.

So what you waiting for ? Go play BASIC. It really is fun.
