Who you be ?

Hi

I play games. I like games. I guess I like to test my brain skills. I am
afflicted with the need to continuously stimulate my mind. So games are
a good way to test my metal. Online gaming puts you up against others so
you get to see how other computer users behave on the net. Forums are
also a great place to test your verbal jousting. It never gets old as
the most unpredictable element is people themselves. You just have to
know how to play them. But, and here is the big but, there is always a
very large unknown factor in all of this which completely destroys the
human aspect of interaction... You can never know your opponents. That
is what the internet does. It takes away the most important element that
we all need, to make valued judgement about anything. Actual human
contact. To see the whites of the eyes. Consequently the image you
create of your opponent is more like role playing. The thing may as well
be a inanimate object like a mascot or teddy bear that sits by your
computer. The person is not real in the true sense, they are built from
fragments, mostly of your own making. So who am I, what am I, what do I
really think and more importantly can you predict my behaviour. Its bad
enough having to best guess what a normal human would do that you can
see face to face, let alone one that is just communicating with words.

And so the internet is filled with guys saying ' they ' or ' them ' as a
way of targeting a group or person unknown. The use of the term is a
trigger for you to now add your own elements of fractured truths to
piece together your very own perception of just who 'they' or 'them'
are. So for every issue, every problem, every cyber attack there are
'those' responsible. And for every one of those unknown to everyone,
there are even more unknown faceless individuals talking about 'them'
and 'those' as though by siding one side or the other 'they' become part
of your known world. But none of it is truly validated. None of it. Not
one email, not one electronic communication. It is all electronic ,
digital, messaging. All of it. Created on a computer, by a computer and
then transmitted by computer. We use electronic gadgets to define our
being, our world, our worth and our persona. We choose now to use mobile
computers to talk to each other and to face off with each other and to
promote our worth, rather than actually interact in a human way. My bank
says it no longer wants to have a man/woman sitting across a table to
actually listen and talk in a human way. And everyone much prefers to
email and text talk to each other as a way of interacting.

That is the choice of today's society. 99% have a phone and you are
nobody without an email address or Facebook account etc. Well here is
the scoop... the risk is that those fellow gamers, that forum jockey,
that group member, that bank representative that text or email may not
be what they purport to be. No matter who says what about anything it is
in the end only you that can make a judgement as to what is real and
what is not. Your judgements, trust me, are in many ways coloured by
your perception of what you interpret from the information presented.
Nothing more and nothing less. So when you peel away the layers of what
you actually know , real facts, about that which your life may depend
on, say financially, that you freely interact with over a highly dubious
secure connection, is there really little wonder that there are not
thousands of cyber attacks every day. It is the price you pay. The
challenge is to reduce the risk. Play the players.. or not.

Sorry for that. I just find it amusing, the internet. Always have. I
treat everyone and everything the same way. I really , really don't know
anyone on the internet....... ' Who you be ? '. [ Warcraft ] Now bugger
off. One day I may be able to see the Matrix but for now it really has
way too many ' Agents ' that purport to be one thing but in truth are
very much another.
