personal phylosophy 001The world that exists is only the interpretation your brain makes of it. Reality is therefore of your own making and is coloured by your understanding of what is presented to you through your senses. The joy is that the perceived truth can be twisted and amplified to instil great pleasure. To that end art in what ever form is designed to saturate your senses and to feed your sensory receptors. So in truth we all sense what we receive in a different way. And so it really is a case that art is what ever you want to make of it. That is the power of art. For me there is no greater power than the power of the imagination when fired by a desire to create. Whether it is by drawing or physically making something. For this there can be no artificial inducers. Therefore no drugs or alcohol. Just simple clean thought so you can best put that brain power to use. So sit down, pencil in hand, music in the ears and journey into the caverns of the mind to discover hidden treasures buried in the pools of your subconscious. And when the work is done, joy at your creation and marvel at what you have achieved. I am an architect by profession with a fascination in the realisation of space in a physical three dimensional full size way. It is always interesting the way others perceive the building and environments you create. Which only demonstrates yet again how the reality we perceive is our own personal reality coloured by all that we absorb through our senses. It is not possible to create a guaranteed sharp image that all will perceive in the same way, but more to be able to sense what emotion certain aspects of design will generate. The skill of a great artist is to infer and not to dictate. The latter is doomed to fail .... or is it ? I was once accused of being an architectural determinist and trash-canned all my work on a building to pursue this guys chain of thought. I nearly failed until I realised his misguided view on determinism failed to recognise a deeper philosophy based on organic architecture. The use of an organic model presumes from a simple identifiable vocabulary it is possible to create the most complex of solutions. I have realised this belief very few times in architecture given the strict way practices, clients and planning authorities dictate design solutions. For that reason I was never able to truly lose myself in architecture turning instead to other forms of art and my serious interest in computers. Shame that I did not enjoy architecture more. I loved my art and my drawing and letting my imagination free. Sadly I never was able to gain the same pleasure from buildings which although stimulating , never truly fired my senses. For that there where way more powerful vehicles of joy and pleasure. My particular rabbit hole is very very deep. For that I am truly grateful. So much fun.. so much.
