Up and ATOM
Hi
The Atom is a strange beast. Two screws only and very long from the
back. When you open you discover the keyboard is attached to one side of
the motherboard and all the circuits and chips are upside down below.
Means you don't have to remove the keyboard to get at the chips. Not
sure about upside down though. I seated what I could. Plenty of volume
in the base for air flow but it really isn't going anywhere the way the
board is set out. I would think this thing gets very hot.
The machine boots into BASIC after I hit the BREAK key. I think there is
supposed to be some kind of logo on the screen. All I get is garbled
characters. All works after I hit the BREAK though. As BASIC goes I
guess. Released in 1983 this machine .. a long time ago now. Sadly not
something I have any desire to use so it'll just get switched on now and
then to make sure it is working. Came with a whole load of books this
computer. The previous owner was very keen. I see they are fetching
quite a bit of money on Ebay now, though the current couple are a touch
optimistic. Getting rare though now.
My drill bits arrived to screw out the middle screw on the A3010. Just
waiting on a tool from Ebay to open the case on the driller container. [
joking ] Though not joking when I tell you the case is a pig to open.
I think I get the gist of it. Drill hole, apply shampoo , lather , rinse
, lather rinse repeat. They've sent me the bloody wrong instructions. [
again . joking ]
I gotta go my chicken and mushroom pie is getting very very cold.
