Words or not words that annoy me
Hi
There are certain words that get spouted so many times it seems in a day
that they have lost all meaning. And when I get them repeated at me over
and over I just reflect on what they mean to 'me'.
First up LOL .... The little word I guess now ends every bloody thing
anyone says. I know it means laugh out loud but it is a word in its own
right given the frequency of usage. And now it gets used completely out
of context. Its a disrespectful way of putting people down without
having to explain why. Seriously if someone literally laughs out loud
that often I question their ability to have any reasonable conversation.
Brexit .... Bloody Brexit. I make no political statement but now it gets
worse as we have a hard Brexit and a soft Brexit. What a dreadful word.
I don't think I've heard one commentary on anything over the last six
months that hasn't mentioned at some time Brexit. But Brexit which I
assume refers to the BR in BRitain is only the main island and does not
include Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is not in Great Britain. The
UK is the united kingdoms of Great Britain and Northern Island and so
it should be Ukexit. But neither is palatable. Sick to death of it and
now its a word that again like LOL just gets included in any discussion
regarding our leaving the common market to mean up yours Europe. I
dunno... I make no comment other than can't you think of a better word.
And finally App... Short I guess for application. Thing is App I sense
has come to mean contact with your mobile phone. The two way street that
is ease of communication but also I assume with the price of giving out
your details so you can be communicated with. I just got a mail from my
bank going on about the benefits of having their trendy app on my mobile
phone. I feel like Vivian in the Young Ones when he keeps telling folk '
Yes we have got a video ' Only with me its ' No I don't have a mobile
phone ' And it's app for this and app for that and app app app... LOL I
notice even my Blizzard 'icon' on the screen that links to the 'login'
screen is called an app. What makes it an app.... its a bloody icon like
my Thumbsplus icon. And when I click it this launches the game which is
software. So where is the app. The thing is just a shortcut to save you
having to type stuff in or ring a number I presume. But again its just a
word that has become something else.
Just that when someone LOLs I do try to imagine what it was that would
have made that person literally laugh out loud.
And when I here Brexit I just sense a serious state of indecision and an
almost anarchistic attitude of social media to motivate folk to bugger
up polling forecasts.
And when I get invited to use an app , I just see a NetBEUI cross-over
cable and a bit of peer to peer networking and you've agreed to allow
others to access and edit your files.
Anyway there are many other words I hate... like 'nice' in reference to
the weather. I have no idea why being incredibly hot and warm is always
referenced as nice. Not for everyone. ' Turned out shite again ' Heat is
just a relative term and some actually have issues with extremes. And
yet the BBC weatherperson cannot refrain from using the term 'nice'
whenever the bloody sun shines. Just means I have to shut down
operations in computer land to avoid over heating for four to five
months... which isn't at all nice.
I better go before something else annoys me. I've come over all Alexei
Sayle.
