G E O S
What started as a general review of some 5.25s finished up with me
struggling to understand this GEOS OS.
First up I decided to review the manual again and decided it was about
time I made a backup of the system disks. First problem on the versions
of GEOS I have (1.3) there is no icon on the desktop that is shown in
the book for the backup of the disk. It is even missing from disk 2 . I
cannot copy the disk as I get a general error.
Next I kinda got sick of the joystick as a mouse and decided to try my
Cheese Mouse for the C64. Really odd. With it plugged in I can type LOAD
and then get locked out. Removing the mouse unlocks the keyboard.
Last one. Having sifted through my disks I finally found a disk with
more stuff on it. A copy made by someone else. The only problem is that
when it boots into GEOS the joystick doesn't work on this version.
Neither will the mouse.
I dragged out a few floppy drives and changed mouse and machine and
disks but I cannot find the utility to copy the GEOS system disk or use
the mouse or get the joystick working on this other version.
I may drag out the Desktop 128 tomorrow for a spin and maybe try GEOS on
that.
I have plenty of copies of GEOS, so not a great problem. Just interested
again to see how it compares to GEM.
