Surf Squirrel
Hi
Finally.. finally after all these years I can confirm that the Surf
Squirrel does work. Amazing really. Finally all the bits came together
and fired up. Yesterday I found in a large tin a load of useful
connectors. One was a short connector that basically connected a large
centronics SCSI to the smaller that you find on the SCSI Iomega ZIP
drives. The other month I found the Surf Squirrel Software and did try
if you recall but failed with a cable I bought off Ebay. This Surf
Squirrel has been kicking around in a drawer for over ten years and I've
never been able to get it to work.
Last night I really was struggling with my Amiga 1200 gaming computer
with hard drive space. I was swapping the drive out and deleting and
moving items just to free up a few megabytes. I got to thinking whether
this new connector would help. Anyway I rescued the SCSI ZIP drive yet
again from my pile of drives. Hooked up the Surf Squirrel and plugged
into the PCMCIA on the 1200. I installed the software including the CD32
emulator. I then put a ZIP in the drive. Fired up CED and edited the
mount file and placed both a PC and Amiga ZIP and ZIC in the DosDrivers
drawer. I was actually holding the ZIP in my lap when I booted. And the
joy as the yellow light flickered as the machine booted and there was
the PC disk and Amiga.
I quickly formatted the ZIP and set up the drive as a button with DOpus
and now I'm moving a 100mb of stuff off the computer on to the ZIP and
making life so much easier for me.
Time for a bit of Arcade Snooker to celebrate.
