Amiga 1060 Sidecar
Just responded to a query regarding the 1060 and to maintain the log I
will post my reply here for reference.
Hi
There is a problem with the sidecar. The drive tries to boot from the
floppy you create and I can get to various stages of the boot sequence.
Sometimes I get the RAM check and sometimes I go further to a
notification about the JANUS software. I have actually got to the prompt
once. Sadly though the problem just fails after a few attempts. I was
getting a beep from the sidecar and a high pitched ping when it couldn't
find the floppy in the 5.25" drive. But after a while on booting the
sounds just disappeared. Seems to work when I have left it a while and
then switch it on.
I am convinced you should get to some kind of boot screen even without
the disk in the 5.25" drive. I fear the sidecar has a memory leak or
power issue. I have tried this on two Amiga 1000s which both work. I
sense the age may have got to the sidecar.
I haven't given up and will no doubt return to the project when I can
get hold of the official 5.25" disk for the Amiga released by Commodore.
If you find a copy let me know.
I wish you luck with the sidecar. There are some videos on YouTube of
people working with them and whilst I recognise the screen display it
appears there should be more on the screen from the sidecar disk created
by the Amiga.
I did struggle with the software downloaded from the Amiga Resources
site as there wasn't enough RAM to make the disk as it wants to copy all
to RAM. It could be the Amiga needs a bigger RAM expansion also. Mine
are 256 and I know they could do with the 512K . That also could be the
problem.
