Simon Says
Hi Ian
Amusing as ever. May sound a little odd but the memories are always way
more rewarding than the real thing now. We all just moved on. The
Spectrum is a pig to use now and it really is a novelty. The Amigas are
wonderful but having a PC with ready access to the internet that plays
all my YouTube stuff is way more beneficial. Those that progressed up
through the ranks of computers were always looking for the next best
thing. The Amiga was upgraded as far as it could before most I guess
moved on. Interestingly I have acquired a lot of gear from old Amiga
group users and I always am amazed that they parted with it. In time I
got to realise there is one truth and I'm not sure where the words come
from but its probably from the bible... ' Man cannot have two masters
.... ' . I struggled having the PC and the Amiga back to back. It never
felt right. In the end I moved the 1200 and rarely used the computer. I
just couldn't use both. But then I didn't use the Amstrad after the
Amiga or the Spectrum after the Amstrad or the ZX81 after the Spectrum.
And the same goes for the various PCs... But I have retained my interest
and am fortunate I can dedicate my life to keeping the gear alive.
Whilst I love playing on the Amiga still , it is just that, playing and
making sure the ship [ many ships ] is still working. Keeping the old
kit alive retains my link to the past, a past I treasure, but it isn't
the play space that I occupy most. For in a few moments I will log into
WoW on this machine and trust me playing Warcraft is something only a
modern machine can provide. And that's the rub... we are all addicts to
micro-progress. And being at the sharp end was probably what really
fascinated us in truth. That's why we got a computer in the first place.
That and PacMan.
