What on earth
Hi
I do have a third PCW9512 but this one has a 3.5” floppy drive.
Same issue, stick in a disk and it just whizzes round. So I
cracked the computer open. Should have been the same inside
albeit with a 3.5” drive and not the 3”. Scratches head. They
added extra shielding and a power module board to the right
of the main board and so many black wires earthing every metal
component. I mean loads of these black cables. Some had three
connected to the same screw. Finally got to the disk drive and
its got no power connector just the ribbon connector.
Having removed the drive the belt was really slack but I could
not get the face off to remove from the bottom pulley. I noticed
all the Amstrad drives have the third smaller screw tightened
very very tight. It is quite deliberate as the screw is also
very very small. I just couldn’t budge it. Also there are no
markings on the drive and I couldn’t find a replacement that I
believed would be suitable. So I’m stuffed. I guess I could replace
the drive. I will check. The electronics in this thing is so
archaic it troubles me even mucking around with different components.
Anyway I screwed the thing back together and put it away for a rainy day.
