Entry 7th May 2017: Post: 1

Given up kinda on the 1060

Well at 2 o'clock last night in the morning I went in search of my
beloved Amiga 1000 that I use to have set up in the Workshop. This
machine I bought from a lady in Wimbledon. I remember the day so well as
the tennis was on and I could see the actual tennis courts from where I
was buying the machine. The lawns or verges had large tree logs on them
to stop people parking going to the tennis.

I knew this A1000 was working .. well last time I used her.

So this morning after I'd had a few hours sleep I dug out the 1000 and
switched on. No problems. Then I noticed the keyboard was going through
the cycling of the quote symbol. I feared the worse as that is what
happens on my busted A4000. I then dug out another keyboard and so
strange I found a box with a keyboard cable inside. This was wrapped in
a newspaper ' The Los Angeles Times ' dated Saturday June 14th 2003...
how strange. Came a long way that. Fired up the 1000 and worked no problem.

So I hooked up the 1000 to the 1060 and this time I got orange letters
on blue background with an E000 Optional ROM bad checksum=90h press F1
to continue. Amazingly the keyboard worked but there was no difference
in the error message.

Booted again and the same, but the drives were active and the computer
was talking to the sidecar.

Booted again and this time I am back to the loading screen and white on
blue which halts at Janus Handler v.2.20 found at segment E000 which
explains the error... blinking cursor and no keyboard.

What I have done is booted numerous times and I am generally getting to
this load screen and disk activity which is encouraging. There may be a
power issue or more likely a failed capacitor or memory chip... What the
hell , I haven't got a clue. BUT.. this Amiga 1000 works a charm and is
very quiet plus the floppy drive is smooth and works perfectly. I will
try again and create a 1.3 side car version and see how I get on.

I counted up the Amiga 1000s last night and discovered I have seven. I
really never knew how many I had.

By the way I had my breakfast at 01.30 lunchtime today.. just. Having my
second cup of cold tea. Fun though
