Given up kinda on the 1060

Hi

Been a disappointing day. I thought I had got the 1060 working but
turned out to be fools gold. I was never really able to replicate my
earlier success. The drive must be faulty. I eventually stripped the
thing down but to be honest inside looks clean as a whistle. Shame
really cus I had to break the Commodore seal.

The drive should I believe kick in half way through the sidecar boot
process with a noise as the disk drive clicks on. This has happened
about half a dozen times in the literally hundreds of goes I have
attempted. Then you should click the PC icon and monochrome and get a
single beep as the drive tries to boot the floppy. I actually managed to
get the sidecar to boot a V3 MSDOS and even get to the A> prompt. Sadly
there was no keyboard response. So I booted again and nothing the drive
wouldn't click in. Sometimes the external 1010 floppy light comes on and
stays on, sometimes the 5.25" floppy light comes on and stays on.
Sometimes I get a window with details of the sidecar BIOS and RAM check
and then sometimes there is nothing at all.

I have tried every which way to replicate the boot from this morning but
have failed. I even swapped the Amiga 1000 out but didn't change
anything. The sidecar appears to work from cold but when warms up it
falls over.. very quickly. I have no answers. If it were software I
could try to sort. If even it were a simple hardware issue that I could
narrow down to say a screen colour or a freeze at a certain point or a
guru or just no mouse or keyboard... but this just isn't working full stop.

I am never one to give up. Second night and its two in the morning and I
will lie there going through everything in my head. I think the sidecar
is broken. Nothing I can do.
