Kitchen Corner

Hi

Been on the BBC all day. Struggling trying to diagnose the issues with
the computer. Seems that these things are very reliant on the batteries
and the things are dead so I lost the CMOS. The fun and games you go
through to install by hand enough to get life in the computer isn't fun.
Especially as you lose it all the minute you switch off. Thanks to the
guys on the BBC forum they put me in touch with a guy selling
replacement batteries. Just acquired one and hopefully pick up where I
left off when it arrives.

I also have been trying out old BBC floppy drives, with little success,
though more down to me not knowing how to run the things. You do get to
appreciate just how easy it is to use an Amiga when you are faced with
the fragmented system of the BBC and no graphical interface. I thought
the RISC OS was complex but this. I know it comes from the same folk..
but really. Its just so unnecessarily convoluted. Doesn't make for fun
retro I can tell you.

These old disk drives make one hell of a racket. I should think they
kept up a lot of neighbours in their day.
