Shelving some A4000ds

[ diary entry ]

Whilst sorting out the disks on the large table I decided to check out
the two A4000ds I used as end table buffers to stop disks dropping off
the edge. I also stack CDs on the top. Seems a waste of two A4000s but
in truth they have their problems.

The first of the two A4000s was gifted to me with other working
machines. Sadly it came with a broken mouse port. I guess one day I will
fix the computer. I fitted an 030 card and reconnected the floppy having
re-fixed the power supply including the on off switch arm. Fired up and
she came to life immediately. Checking the screen I was unable to use
the mouse. Fortunately if you use the right or left Amiga keys with the
arrow keys you can still move the pointer and interestingly the click
button worked on the mouse.

Second 4000 is a really sad case in truth. I bought this machine from
Germany and when it came I was advised that the memory SIMM slots were
busted. The first works but the others are shot. For a good period I
used this computer on the internet and had it loaded up with cards and a
Cybervision 64 etc.

Then one night she just stopped working. Dead all but for the power
supply and hard drive. Sad because she has the 040 and was a real nifty
machine. I fear the board has finally expired. I will extract the
contents of the hard drive whilst the machine is out on the table.
Future project I guess.

Images below for your interest.
