Entry 2nd August 2019: Post 01: Amiga Magazines - What no disk?

Amiga Magazines - What no disk?

When you pick up an old Amiga magazine it is easy to forget that
when purchased from the shop the magazine would have looked and
felt a lot different. For most Amiga magazines had cover disks
stuck to the cover, making the browsing in shops quite tricky.
The simple weight of all those disks made the turning of the
front cover a challenge in its own right. Worse is that you had
to hunt through the mags trying to find one that hadn't had the
disks 'nicked'.

I recall the battle of the games magazines trying to out do each
other with as many disks as possible. I think Amiga Action managed
to win the prize for most disks on a magazine cover. Incredible.

I still have any number of magazines with the disks sealed and
trapped on the cover. It really does make storage and viewing the
magazines quite a pain. Many of the cellophane packets just peel
off the magazines and I store these in another pile. Seems rather
sad that the disks never get used, but then plenty collect mint
in box for that very purpose. Not a fan.

All of this was the result of me turning over a pile of One Amiga
to find Aladdin that some guy had queried on EAB. I guessed I had
the magazine in question. Just a shame that the disks were sealed
to the cover. Fortunately I had other copies. I always found One
Amiga to be a very confusing name for a magazine, and one that the
magazine owner was never quite sure of how to call it. I wasn't
that much into games mags in the day, as I tended to buy the games
anyway. Saying that there were some classic demo games that I never
did buy, choosing to play the cover disk only.

Anyway I photographed the pile of magazines that I retrieved for
Aladdin just to demonstrate the point.
