Entry 18th August 2023: Post 1: Switchsoft IO Port - Build a robot.

Switchsoft IO Port - Build a robot.

I was asked some while back to advise of what this gadget was that
I featured with the CDTV. At the time I had no idea but now I have
uncovered the literature that went with the little black box.

The small black box is a Switchsoft Input Output Port. With this
little magic device you are able to provide a bridge between the
Amiga software and virtually any external hardware device.

On the device are three rows of connectors on the port plus LED.
The first row consists of 8 phono sockets derived from the parallel
port and which are bidirectional and can be configured as either
input or output. The second row has 5 phono sockets and are all
inputs derived from the joystick port. The third row has 2 phono
sockets and these are the analog inputs.

BUILDING ROBOTS:

'Most of the fun in constructing robot devices is the creativity
involved in designing and building something yourself'.

You do need three core skills to produce robots and these are;
Mechanical Engineering to enable you to design and construct the
moving parts; Electronics, to interface between the robotic device
and the computer; and Programming, to create programs to drive the
robot that you create.

The guide explains how to use AMOS BASIC, Amiga BASIC, HISOFT
and GFA. It also explains how to program the port from scratch
using binary notation.

Cool or what. Totally beyond me but sounds interesting all the
same.

So there you have it, the device is a 'thingy-me-bob' made by
Switchsoft to build your own robot army using an Amiga 500.

The mouse port is made by the same guy that gave me the IO Port
and is designed for use with the CDTV.
