My button fell off... I feel so d'EJECTED
I was moving one of the Amiga 500s and noticed the floppy eject
button was loose. Worse, it fell off. I really couldn't leave the
machine like this so I set too fixing the button. Turns out that
a small piece of plastic had broken off. I couldn't find it so
maybe the button has been like it for a good while. In the end
I had to glue it back on. Worked.
I gave the computer a bit of a clean. Funny that I have never been
troubled by the yellow nature of Amigas. Being an architect I am
use to seeing materials weather and grow old. In truth in building
this can be seen as adding beauty to something. For me you cannot
fight the ageing process, best you can do is grow to love what you
have. I understand that the yellow may be something to do with a
fire retardant in the paint. In removing the yellow it may be that
the plastic is weakened. It certainly does odd things to wording
and labels. For me I live with the yellow. And I don't get hung up
over it..
This computer is quite an early model and works without fault. I
just keep her dust free and fire her up on a regular basis. Looks
immaculate inside. Maybe a slight issue with the one expansion
card capacitor, but that's about all. Best left alone.
