Entry 13th December 2023: Post 1: Amiga 500 Minus/Plus - Version 1.2 - Computer 36.

Amiga 500 Minus/Plus - Version 1.2 - Computer 36.

What I have done to my poor old Amigas over the years is at times
pretty bonkers when I think about it now. Take this innocent
looking Amiga 500 Plus. On the face of it just your average A500
Plus. But would you have thought that anyone would have taken out
the A500 Plus motherboard and exchanged it for a A500 Rev 5 Type 2.

Let me explain ...

Often when I obtained A500 Plus machines the battery damage was a
touch beyond my skills to repair. So I went on the hunt for new
motherboards on Ebay. I often couldn't find an A500 Plus board
and so I bought what ever I could get my hands on. In this case I
purchased a 1.2 1987 motherboard and just placed that in the Plus.

Thing is I don't seem to have done that cus when you look at the
differing shades of top and bottom case from the port view these
were two different cases. Curiouser and curiouser.

OK the shielding says 1.2 and yet the ROM was upgraded to the
315093.02 or the 1.3 ROM. The 1.2 ROM of which I have a few are
numbered 315093.01. Clear as mud.

This board is one of the oldest in the collection and sits in an
A500 Plus totally hidden from view. The chips on this board date
from the 33rd week of 1987 or August and with a release date of
May 87 in the UK makes the board just three months after the UK
release of the A500. Not quite a Type 1 Rev 5 but certainly a
Type 2. That is like thirty six years old. I'm guessing that if
the 04/90 refers to the date on the floppy then I must have also
swapped that out. I have no idea what I did.

This was all of my making, the confusion that is. What am I like?
Just that stupid acts like this make making sense of machines by
others a complete and utter nightmare.

Anyway she booted just fine and the floppy worked perfectly. She
is a little treasure even if she lives in an A500 Plus. How odd
that one of the earliest boards sits in an endgame case for the
500 series.

And why Computer 36? Well I have a combined total of 38 Amiga 500
and Plus machines and this one is Computer 36. She is now back in
her storage slot in the big room next door tucked away under a
dust cover.

PS Took me an age last night to sort why the images of an A500
related to a health check on my A500 Plus computers. I think I
have now sorted it.
