Entry 31st January 2024: Post 1: Amiga 1200 - Rev 1D.4 motherboard chip reference.

Amiga 1200 - Rev 1D.4 motherboard chip reference.

This little exercise took me quite a while today. First I had to
recover a dead Amiga 1200 motherboard. I then decided to give the
board a thorough wash and dry.

Next up the photographs.

Finally the referencing of the various bits and bobs and all the
time I was writing the notes I had an actual Amiga 1200 on my lap
as I always forget the order of the rear ports.

Notable items missing are the mouse port daughterboard, floppy
drive and ROM chips. Sadly, although the board looks in perfect
condition, it arrived here dead and being all surface it remains
that way. Never mind.

Enjoy the A1200 landscape. I always get lost.

Amiga 1200 - Rev 1D.4 motherboard chip reference.

150 pin trapdoor connector.

68EC020 @ 14.28 MHz processor.

ROM Socket normally 3.0 or 3.1.

ALICE - Part of the AGA chipset that controls
25 system DMA channels and addresses chip memory.
Basically the AGA Agnus chip. The chip also has
an integrated Copper (co-processor) and controls
aspects of the Amiga's display such as draggable
screens and copper scrolls.

Note that the main processor is free to do other
operations as Alice operates asynchronously moving
blocks of memory twice as fast as the processor.

GAYLE - Responsible for controlling the 2.5" non-
buffered IDE controller. Relatively poor standard.

BUDGIE - Only found on the A1200 and is a DRAM
and bus controller. The A1200s buster chip which
also handles the trapdoor slot, a Zorro II slot
by electronic standards.

LISA - Graphics controller and hardware sprites.
Handles video modes and resolutions supporting
256 colours per screen from a 24bit palette. Or
with HAM-8 mode 262,144 colours.

Lisa is the AGA equivalent of the Denise.

CIA x2 - Two identical chips handling serial, parallel,
joystick and mouse ports.

CIA x2 - Two identical chips handling serial, parallel,
joystick and mouse ports.

Amiga 391508-01 Keyboard MPU Chip for A1200.

ADV101KP30 IC, Video DAC, Triple 8-bit, 30MHz, 44-Pin PLCC

PAULA - Providing native audio 4 channel 8 bit sound
plus floppy drive controller.

I believe that this is the 2MB DRAM. Motherboard
locations U16, U17, U18, U19.

28.37516 MHz Crystal Oscillator PAL

4.433619 MHz PAL master clock (mclk) crystal.

RF Modulator.

RF Modulator plus RF connector [ brown ]

External PCMCIA Port.

Texas Instruments chips - no idea.

Internal 44 pin IDE interface.

Clockport originally for RTC module but
used by a number of devices. Generally
half pins removed, not installed or laid flat.

Floppy disk drive 34-way, 2-row header plug.
All odd numbered pins are connected to ground

Keyboard connector - Removable clip not shown.

Pin connector to mouse daughter board not shown.

Floppy power and keyboard LED connector.

9-pin D-Sub Joystick / Mouse Port

23 pin D-Sub female disk drive port.

23 pin male serial port.

23 pin D-sub Parallel port female.

Left and right audio jacks.

23 Pin RGB video port male.

Composite jack.

Amiga PSU connector.

Lots and lots of leaky capacitors.

Not forgetting there is a back to the board.
