Entry 13th July 2018: Post 02: A500 Thanks for the memory

A500 - Thanks for the memory

The A500 is a truly wonderful Amiga. Mostly cus it runs perfectly
well as a base unit and can handle most applications designed for
it, subject only to disk swapping. To gain more RAM is an easy
process of adding through the trap door. And hard drives and
peripherals can easily be plugged in via the side expansion slot.

The trick with the A500 is to respect the era that it was born
of and be honest to the period. It really is no use wanting the
computer to run as an A1200, let alone a more modern machine.
There was so much made and created for the A500 you are hardly
going to even dip your feet into the pool that is Amiga 500
wonderland.

So sit back and enjoy the memories.... [ sorry for that ].
I used the memory thing and the opening lines as way of leading
us into the point of this topic and that is the expandability
of the Amiga 500 for RAM etc.

Amiga 500 - Thanks for the memory

Say cheese.. or killer cheese.

Cut your fingers on this thing to get
at the pesky bloody barrel battery.

Same board just a different revision.

Fortunately outside of the main machine
but still very destructive... and invisible.

So if you have one of these.. Chances
are the battery is leaking.

Keep a watchful eye on the state of your pins.

Boards for the A500 did often tend to be small.

But still had the blasted battery.

Pretty much a standard expansion
to the Amiga 500 in the day

So where are those wires going ?

Love that switch on the card

Its a ROM sandwich

Plastic jigsaw

Interesting switch to the RAM board

Microbotics with a 2032, how wonderful

Pheonix by DSH

Internal options were also available.

Inside the Checkmate.

That's the Spirit.

Plus acceleration

The Mega Midget Racer

And finally the A5000.

For me the cards are a bit over the top
for a base A500 and I tend to keep them
in boxes. Except the viper.

Sorry for being brief... Gotta water the bloody grass.
Summer.. honestly who needs it. Soon be winter.
