Entry 19th July 2023: Post 1: Amiga Game - The Addams Family.

Amiga Game - The Addams Family.

Seriously where do I begin to discuss The Addams Family. Cult TV
of the day featuring a strange family hold up in a gloomy museum
of a mansion living in their own bizarre and strange world. The
fun of the series was the way others struggled with the oddball
and quite macabre goings on of the group.

The Addams Family actually began life as a cartoon created by his
namesake Charles Addams and was published in The New Yorker. The
TV series ran for two series in 1964. At the time TV was finding
its feet as it were and there were any number of oddball comedies
featuring families out of joint with the norm. I can think of quite
a number in the day , Bewitched, Beverly Hill Billies, Green Acres
and the best of all The Munsters.

The Munsters was my favourite and was truly off the wall. The very
otherwise 'horror' based characters became lovable every day stars
of a comedy that also went on to become a computer game.

The Addams Family would return any number of times in various forms
and none more famous than the 1991 film which is actually the basis
of the Amiga game. It features the very wonderful Anjelica Huston
as Morticia who you may recall from John Wick Chapter 3. The star
of the show goes to 'Thing' a hand that wanders around the mansion.

For me the game is a bit of a bore, but then I am not fond of the
platform games. The Addams Family was highly rated in its day as
being very addictive. The backdrop was very cartoon like set against
a black background which was originally some form of parallax
scrolling image. Think that would have sent me bonkers. For some
reason the game reminded me of Attic Attack. I guess it was the
constant dodging backward and forward through various doors.

The game comes on one disk and gives you the opportunity to store
your progress by entering a password. For a single disk it is quite
endless in size and incredibly easy to master. So why not have a
go.

This purchase of the boxed game was prompted by an advert I saw in
one of my recently acquired Amiga Computing. I did already have
the disk for the game but not the box. I sense I am missing a
few bits and pieces from the box which I shall certainly look out
for.

I don't think Morticia is any competition for Elvira, though I
was surprised to discover Angelica Huston based her character on
Jerry Hall and Cher. What an odd concoction. Amazing what you find
out when you look into the origins of 'stuff'. Always fun.

So do I buy John Wick Chapter 4 ... ' Hell yes! '.

The Addams Family 1991 Paramount Pictures with Ocean Software as

and Sound Effects by Jonathan Dunn. Amiga Technical Support by
Mick West. Produced by John Woods. 1992 Ocean Software Limited.
