ScuzzBlog: Diaries July 2023 Entry 22nd July 2023: Post 1: SONY Digital Media Player - New battery issues. SONY Digital Media Player - New battery issues. My beloved SONY NWZ-A845 Digital Media Player has run out of juice. Sadly when the battery on these things stops holding the charge you gotta replace them. Unfortunately SONY insist that the battery only be replaced by an authorised dealer. Evidently the battery is somehow hard coded into the unit. There are replacements on EBAY and guides on YouTube, but adding the cost and risk of breaking the machine I decided what the heck, buy another one. Machine that is. Those reading my blogs know that I am not a fan of telephone style internet based gadgets. The Walkman may be archaic but it suits my needs as I really only buy CDs anyway and never download stuff. Looking at the alternatives I came across an E-Series machine that had a little less functionality and only 4GB storage, but it came with a docking station with speakers. The benefit being that I could charge the unit whilst playing it. One of the annoyances of my original is that you have to use the USB connector and that means whilst charging I can't use it, and I also need the computer on. Anyhoo, another day and another gadget enters the sanctuary. And it was only 25 quid. Cheap as chips. At that price I'll get half a dozen. The unit is a NWZ-E443 released in July 2009 and works pretty well the same as the NWZ-A845. The differences being the Active Speaker System and a simple drag and drop for file transfer. It is also black and slightly smaller. I'm loving it cus the speaker system is easier to hold than just the unit and you just stand it up like a small tablet picture frame. The storage capacity isn't a problem as I really only have a select number of albums that I like and I can always delete one if I am getting short of space. The battery is holding its charge which is really wonderful. I guess in time that will fall over also. I am thinking about getting a few more just in case. I do like having the Walkman for when I'm drawing. I just hate the 'sound of the suburbs'.. to quote the punk band The Members. i.e. other human beings and their eternal grass cutting. I'm a happy bunny. Back to Imagine Dragons and Evolve, particularly Believer which prompted me to buy as I was tempted with their efforts on League of Legends. Missed it the first time around.
