ScuzzBlog: Diaries June 2023

Entry 1st June 2023: Post 1: Canon PowerShot G7 - Dim view.

Canon PowerShot G7 - Dim view.

I have been using the Canon G7 PowerShot since the summer of 2016.
I have not been too impressed by the camera which for me never
gives a really sharp image. Fortunately I can use Photoshop to
improve pictures for the most part. Where it does excel is in the
very close-up macro work and lack of yellowing to images. I have
tried other cameras and they sadly leave a residue of yellow dots
and burns in areas of the pictures when photographing on macro.

And so the G7 is my weapon of choice. I have just added another
to the collection making three in total. The first is busted to
death sadly , a victim of a tripod fall. The camera was released
in October 2006 and is becoming retro in its own right. I am aware
that modern telephone cameras would do a better job but hey, that
wouldn't be in the spirit of what I do here.

Anyhoo, the second G7 was showing signs of a dimming of the image.
The white of the pages to books and magazines was starting to look
all too grey. So when another G7 came on the Bay for forty five
quid I snapped it up. It has a missing silver outer ring which may
suggest it has taken a tumble and caused the lens to jar and get
stuck. The ring may have been removed to free the lens.

When I first used the latest G7 it was giving out a blue tint. This
turned out to be a setting that filters tungsten light for indoor
shots. There really is a multitude of settings for the camera. You
can personalise your settings and same them under a program function.

I checked the images with that of my current camera and there wasn't
any noticeable difference. The photographs of the paper were just
the same and truly do look sh**... er dim. Nothing to do but live
with what I have I guess. Nothing still compares to the Epson, buy
hey.

So I start the month with a failed camera attempt. Last month was
a tripod and this was only the tip of a relatively small iceberg.
Life with my computers this last two weeks has proven a little fraught
and none too enjoyable. I am out of the storm now but tormented by
the death star again. Ar hum... such is life.

I enclose some images of the latest edition complete with blue tint.
Note that the blue tint is taken with the new camera and the camera
in the image is the current camera. The images of the supposedly
white paper shows me using 'levels' in Photoshop to compensate for
the dim grey paper. I use a white strip light when taking photographs.
So we are stuck with the crappy images for now and likely forever,
if history of how I do things here is anything to go by.

Anyway ... How you dooin ? Turned out shite again. Bloody sunshine.
