Entry 17th October 2019: Post 01: The Colossus Computer - The CD Era.

The Colossus Computer - The CD Era.

The end of my Win95 era also signalled the demise of the CD as a
format that I frequently used. I guess it lasted until 2003 but
with the closing of so many magazine stores in the town fewer and
fewer outlets were available to buy publications. For me I was
happy with my Win98 machine and in 2003 I was able to record all
my own CDs. I had so many computers by that time networked I had
no problems storing data. And the day of cover disk free software
just ended. The problems it created just outweighed the benefits.

And so the CD era was over and I moved into my most demanding of
all my times spent with computers ... the retro era. For this is
when my website began and the collecting just took front seat and
there was nothing else... well other than gaming. Always gaming.

I do have tubs and tubs full of computer CDs. So much so that I
rarely give them the light of day. It's sad that I have so many
CDs that have never ever been used. I did keep a few dozen out
that I did try out on the Win95 machine. I never did find a
suitable alternative to Dpaint for animation. Here are a few of
the more notable CDs that busied my days in the pre 2003 era.

One final point worth mentioning is that I spent nearly as much
time post 2003 with the Amiga as I did with the PC. Odd that.
