ScuzzBlog: Diaries April 2020

Entry 9th April 2020: Post 02: Amstrad CPC - Motor Racing.

Amstrad CPC - Motor Racing.

I will try to keep this short as I spent way to much time behind
the wheel on the CPC464 today. It all started the other day with
the MicroProse racing simulator and I was drawn to my own early
experiences with Chequered Flag on the Spectrum.

As it happens I was flicking through a few Amstrad racing tapes
whilst researching the Amstrad Action blog the other day. Nothing
for it but to fire up the trusty Amstrad and have a blast. If you
haven't played tape games then you won't appreciate the annoyance
of the very slow tape loading process. Fortunately the Formula 1
simulator loaded with no problem ....

And yet on a empty circuit with no bends or twists I still managed
to crash the car. Not once, not twice but several times. So funny.
These games are from 1985 and still are a fun ride.

I did dig out Chequered Flag from my early Spectrum days and
reflected on the piece of paper inside that had all my best race
times. That was dedication for you, especially as this game was
a pain to play with all the various controls to manage. It is
quite incredible that this game dates from 1983 and yet I can
recall playing like it was yesterday.
