ScuzzBlog: Diaries April 2025
Entry 16th April 2025: Post 1: SONY PlayStation - Enter the fifth.
SONY PlayStation - Enter the fifth.
I wasn't planning on getting a PS5 just yet but recent world issues
made me bring forward the purchase, given trade markets may become
volatile in the future. We only just got over the chip shortage so
who knows what a trade war may do. Anyways I now have one.
I have no intention of reviewing the beast. There is plenty enough
out on the internet if you want to know specs. I'll just give you
my first opinions of the thing.
First up the reason for not buying a PS5 is that they offer very
low value in terms of game reward for your money. Not only are
there few big game exclusives, but what is on offer costs. The
only two games that interested me were Stellar Blade and the second
part to the Final Fantasy remake. This is not like the PS2 era
when games were coming at you thick and fast. Plenty of the games
cross platform and I have no love for shooters.
The console itself reminds me of a PS2 run over by a truck and
sprayed white. Actually it is not even white it is more a dull
white with a faint hint of black. Note I didn't say grey. The
form of the machine forgetting the side panels is just your basic
power, HDMI, USB and controller. I wanted the disc version as I
am a collector so I want my games on disc.
This is the slim version and is cheap as chips. The style is very
basic and doesn't sit well with anything in truth. I've stuck
mine on top of an Amiga 3000T almost out of sight, relegating the
XBOX 360 for now.
The biggest issue I had was with the stand and the fact there was
no instructions. You would have thought a small leaflet was in
order seeing I had to pay for this thing. Just that if you don't
know the model ref in terms of 1000 or 2000 series you are going
to be scratching your head as to which hole to plug and what to
do with the extra plastic bit. Another gripe is that the manual
says stick the disc in but doesn't say which way round. It becomes
obvious for those miserly enough not to buy the stand. Laying it
flat on the pizza risers makes it clear.
Once I had the thing vertical and connected the machine performed
just like the PS4 albeit a lot more noisy on start-up.
Personally I think the console looks crap. Probably the worst I
have seen throughout my years collecting. I'm sure the thinking
is to improve over-heating issues. I just think its a lot of fuss
for a few exclusive games that all should be transposed over to
the PC and forget the separate console. Its just not worth it.
Anyhoo I've been banging away at Eve in Stellar Blade and already
am in love again. They have brought out a Yorha 2B update so you
can play as the Nier Automata mopstick. There is also Ada Wong in
Separate Ways to look forward to. I'm sure I'll find a few games
to make it worth its money. It also plays the PS4 stuff so cool.
That's me done for the month. Next up I have to replace the Win10
computer. So annoying, never mind. I really do need to get a new
camera. I fear something has taken residence inside this thing
and is making the lens lose focus. The images are just not as
sharp any-more and there is only so much I can do with Photoshop.
Back to Eve.
