ScuzzBlog: Diaries April 2026
Entry 9th April 2026: Post 1: One very small step - Unpopular view and NVIDIA Share.
One very small step - Unpopular view and NVIDIA Share.
Has been a troubling couple of days with the Win10 machine but I
will loop back to that one.
First up I have found myself this week recalling my days as a young
lad sitting in front of our black and white TV watching the first
moon landing. I was so involved in the whole Apollo missions that
I would write down literally everything that was being said. I was
so excited by the Eagle landing that my mom had to write down that
line. And I definitely don't have an 'a' in one small step for man.
Anyway here we are some 56 and a half years later and we are still
doing the old slingshot and enjoying the dark side of the moon. And
yet after all this time we are still planning on landing a person
on the moon. So why has human kind taken so long to do something
that originally took less than ten years. The truth is a little
sad in truth but a consequence of a race that has lost its way.
So much happened in the sixties and at no time did I sense anything
other than a pace of history that was expanding exponentially. It
seemed there was nothing we could not achieve. But I sense drive
was fueled by an inner belief in the progress and testing of a
race. It felt like we had finally kicked over all the problems of
previous generations and we were going to journey forth just as
prophesied by Star Trek.
So what went wrong .. I actually think its a little problem called
'them and they syndrome' brought about by social media. Before the
mobile phone captured everyone's attention we all tended to watch
and listen to what was being told us. It was a one way form of
dialogue. Books, magazines, films, television and even education
was a process of being informed and we totally respected that and
so in many ways we believed in an overarching leadership that we
entrusted our world with.
This all changed with social media and the right of everyone to
reply. Today users of web sites and the like presume that they can
get involved, and what is worse, believe and reinforce what ever
view they have to the point sometimes of it being the only view.
No more are valued sites populated by known journalists with a
one way form of dialogue, but more your unfluencers, bloggers,
streamers and worse AI.
And so we now have the 'they and them syndrome'. The target of all
our woes and ills are invisible folk that are generally referred
to as them. I read and hear it all the time. Conversations being
critical and citing only some person , body or group called them
or they. We have moved into a blame culture where in truth as long
as there is someone, something to blame then all is OK in the world.
Sadly the resultant affect is to create a stagnant world, devoid
of any real strong leadership, and where those in charge use the
megaphone of social media to spout nonsense as a way of bullying
folk into believing. What is troubling is there doesn't appear to
be any sense of honesty. Words are just used to validate an argument
in the hope of getting approval. The problems start when the truth
results in chaos and the misinformation causes harm.
Anyhoo I looked at the pictures from Artemis and reflected on me
maybe changing the words from my log from 1969 to simply saying
'one very small step for man ' and still waiting for the next. I
have to hope that a future generation will better moderate the
use of the planets resources and stop using bullying tactics to
get what they want. If we don't start getting along, and putting
the needs of the many in priority focus we run the risk of never
getting that opportunity of reaching for the stars.
Sorry for that ... I've been thinking a lot these last two days.
Memory Leakage.
I have been struggling to identify a problem with the Windows 10
machine and a leak in my RAM resources causing a steadily burning
of RAM capacity to the point of system crashes. What happened
when I launched say Warcraft is the computer would suddenly start
eating through the RAM till there was no more. At first I thought
it was Warcraft and then Steam. Finally however I tracked it down
to a recent update by NVIDIA for an application called Share which
is an overlay application that runs whilst playing games, mostly
to record game video. I wasn't even aware of it. What was worse
is the power consumption was very high.
After a few days of reading up on the problem and watching vids
I took the plunge and killed the task and like magic the problem
for me was resolved. I was again able to play Warcraft.
I was on a quest to level my mage to 90 and so I have had to burn
quite a bit of time catching up and now I'm 88. Getting there. And
once I get to 90 I can put things to rest for a while. As you do.
PS May sound a bit callous but in respect of what happens to this
world in the future I care not. I had my time here and for the
most part it has been OK. I can see real issues on the horizon for
humans which is going to involve the displacement of whole populations
as a result of land becoming inhospitable to survive on due to
global warming. The issues of mass movements of peoples could
become a disaster that fuels even world wars. If humans don't
learn to stop consuming and control the heat they release into
the atmosphere the planet will burn up. Hopefully not while I
am still here. You have been warned.
Anyway I got my tent and sleeping bag so I'll be OK. See below.
