Better keep my mouth shut

Hi

I was going to post this on the forum, but it would just upset them.
It was in response to yet another failed Amiga and the immediate
decision to buy new chips and swap out capacitors. Seriously if I
did this everytime I had a problem I would be in debt up to my neck.

Anyway this was the response but I didn't post it. Thank goodness.

I always read these threads with amusement, sorry. Just that I have
so many Amigas and for the best part they are all working and I never
buy chips or dips or what ever. I have had various issues this year
with 2000s but they all are fixed and I never replace anything generally.
Just saying. I just must be dead lucky. I have a 2000 in the main room
with a 1200 motherboard, I have a 2000 with a GVP that I use every
single day. I have a 2000HD which I did have some issues but has worked
all this year. Another A2000 that has just the floppies and no hard
drive that I use occasionally. Another 2000 that is plugged into the
Checkmate that had a dicky hd till I just lay her on her side.

I have so many machines and trust me the last thing I ever think about
is replacing stuff. I dunno. How is it I have like so many Amiga 1200s
and use them daily and not one has had a capacitor replaced. I have
three A4000ds running every single day and they work without fault.
I checked 26 [ twenty six ] A500s earlier this year and I had issue
with just two one of which had the Viper and a sticky hard drive but
it now works. The other had a dodgy floppy drive.

The only problem machine I have is a dodgy 1200 in a tower which
because it was installed in a way it was never designed to do I have
to simply reseat the Blizzard and press on the buffered interface cus
they come loose standing vertical. Then she is fine again. I have all
3.5 and 2.5" original drives and all my old floppy drives. My 1000s
work, My C128s work . I even recently got my 1060 sidecar working. My
GVP sidecars work and my XT drives work. I never think that something
is ever bust. I even check all my 1541s etc with my C64. Last week I
got two C64s working, though I did exchange the keyboard on a C64 cus
of a busted off key. Even the PETs work and the Apple ][. The BBC Master
with the double disk drive had a replacement battery works plus another
BBC plus the Electron and the Atom. All my Acorns work... and the Atari
Falcon and Woody. Just saying.

The only thing that doesn't work any more is one 17" Microvitec monitor.
If I leave that long enough the image does appear. But I have given up.

All my 600s work though some of the 2.5" have given up.

I am not making any of this up . Just like I say if I had that 2000 I am
almost sure I could get it working. I just find it odd that you guys seem
to be forever swapping out stuff. I have received damaged and broken
machines where they have been neglected and say the battery has leaked
and in some cases I have swapped out motherboards. Earlier this year
I got two Amstrad DD1s, 2 6128s , a 6128PLUS and a two +3s and a PC9512
and an 8256 by having to replace the rubber bands in the disk drives but
all the electronics worked.

Dunno I must be lucky. Seems odd though. I'm still waiting for my first
capacitor failure. And trust me there must be a gazillion here. And I have
no intention of doing anything... I switch the stuff on and it works.
Every single day. The stuff is pretty fool proof. Dunno. The trick is
not to mess with it I guess and just have fun and use it and not keep
plugging in and plugging out. And use it the way it was originally designed.

Keeping kit working really for me has always been about making sure you
don't chug it about, keep it in a clean dry dust free environment. Keep
it level if you can. Switch on regularly and have a play.
