Bottom of the Drawer

[ diary entry ]

OK I am sifting through endless cables, power supplies and envelopes
with XCopy Pro with dongles and hand-scanner software and A500 Action
replays... and like Tom Thumb I kinda pulled out these two plumbs. Both
in small plastic bags which made me scratch my head for a while as I
hadn't got a clue. Inside were two hand-helds. The Atari Portfolio and
The Acorn Pocket Book.

I discovered the Atari to be without batteries and so dropped in a few
and was greeted with a welcome screen. The unit uses an Intel 80C88 CPU
running at 4.9152 MHz running "DIP Operating System 2.11" (DIP DOS) and
in my case V1.072 1989.

As for the Acorn well I got nothing. There appeared only to be the one
battery, but with further checking I found two very degraded batteries
which I removed. I guess I need to replace all batteries but if I know
Acorn I probably have lost the working CMOS for the unit. Haven't given
up yet.

Quite neat little machines. Not my thing in truth, that is probably why
they were bottom of the drawer. Anyway some links and images as ever on
the website.
