Entry 3rd August 2019: Post 01: AMAX-II The Macintosh Emulator.

AMAX-II The Macintosh Emulator.

What no ROMs ? Sadly not. I know where they are though, in my
Amiga 3000D on the AMAX card in that machine. I could actually
buy some new ROMs off the Bay but in truth, not being anything
like a big enough fan of the MAC, I really am not that troubled
having those empty slots.

This little interface was designed for all Amigas of the day and
came with special legs to suit the 2000 and the 1000. There is
no need for legs on the Amiga 500. Without the ROMs there isn't
really much point trying.

I do have the external floppy drive for the MAC which typical
for Apple chooses to remove eject button functionality. There
are also numerous MAC disks floating around that came with the
emulator.

I have to say I am not a great fan of emulators. Even with modern
emulators it's just a trick to fool the user into thinking they
have the real deal. When in fact it's about as far removed from
the real thing as you can get. There is never any substitute for
owning the real hardware and software. I have always found having
kit designed for the programs the way to go. It is why I just
loved the PlayStation 1 over the PC in the day. Cus I knew that
it was relatively unlikely that SONY would sell discs that wouldn't
run on their kit. So it just made things so much better. And same
goes for running MAC applications, software etc. Just so much
easier having the real kit.... or not.

So I put the AMAX-II back in the box. Made in Canada wouldn't you
know. Nice idea but not something that I would want sticking out
the back of my Amiga. I have a much better bit of kit in the Amiga
anyway. So why struggle with second rate systems.
