Amiga 1.3 - Creating WB disks - In summary.
Day 5 and time to summarise ...
Inside every Amiga 500 box when sold new would have been manuals.
Workbench 1.3 was actually released as enhancer software.
Truth is the simplistic nature of the file structure makes the
enhancing of the software a walk in the park.
Over the last few days I have shown how by producing a self booting
disk you are able to create a basic Workbench disk from files and
drawers salvaged from any Amiga disk.
The basic structure of the Workbench 1.3 disk is no different to
one that you can create yourself.
Those enhanced AmigaDOS tools crop up on any number of disks.
I nabbed an Anglia PD disk and opened the directories by example.
However, there is one aspect of this process which is essential
to the successful nature of creating magic on the Amiga 500. And
that is the user.
If you are a GOTEK WHLoad gamer that simply wants to download stuff
to play on the Amiga then this really isn't for you.
In my opinion you are not suited to such things if you gut your
Amiga and degrade it with a USB gaming archive. Personally I have
never been confused between a computer and a gaming machine. Same
goes for a computer and telephone.

There was a reason for this reflection, there always is when I get
all moody about my passion. Truth is next month I have to get a new
computer. Microsoft have deemed as much. I have never been so
miserable at the thought of acquiring new kit. I play games but I
am not a gamer. I don't do social media and do not use a mobile
phone. I have no interest in seeking validation from posting
pointless moronic comments on the internet to people I don't know.
I know that the intrusive nature of new systems relies on its ability
to farm every drop of information about the user to sell to companies
for advertising purposes. I appreciate that Google, MS and Apple
think they have some rights over your computer activity. This I well
understand, however, it doesn't mean I agree with it. Neither do I
tolerate being constantly badgered by endless bullshit.
Sorry.
So back to 1.3 I go and reflect on a time when it was just me versus
the computer. There was nothing else to interfere. It still is a
very sacred place. So why on earth would I want to degrade my love
and passion by upgrading to modern systems. I have Microshit for
all that crap.
You will never sell me on a Gotek. The floppy drive is sacred on my
Amigas, cus in truth it means more than you can ever imagine. The
day I give up on the sanctity of the floppy will be the day I give
up with my passion.
