ScuzzBlog: Diaries August 2026 Entry 29th August 2026: Post 1: Phantasmagoria - Amiga game that never arrived. Phantasmagoria - Amiga game that never arrived. Prior to the recent months of heatwave in the UK there was a discussion on the forums about Phantasmagoria and whether it ever appeared on the Amiga. The folks at Amiga Format back in Aug 97 seemed very hopeful. In truth whilst I played the game on the PC using Win95 I never caught sight of the game in the stores at the time for the Amiga so I tend to be doubtful. I did some research and couldn't find a release so I'm gonna say no. I have always been a fan of Sierra. Their games were always a cut above the rest. Their story based adventure/mystery games were a safe bet when investing in big box games. There are any number for the Amiga. Kings Quest being a favourite. I was tempted by Phantasmagoria in the day simply by the name. The format was very adventurous for the day using real time video of characters which you could guide around the screen. I played the game often into the early night forgetting to put on the lights in the room and man was it scary at times. I really did enjoy the game, so much so I purchased the sequel and spin off which turned out to be even better. In truth The Beast Within was the better of the games. If you ever played adventure games like ZORK in the day you will appreciate the simple click and go format. Although we have the characters animated in Phantasmagoria the concept isn't any different. Many of the adventure games for the Amiga followed the same format ie Monkey Island and was much loved in the day. Sierra was a great publisher of such games with a history back through the early 5.25 inch format. Its a shame that the game didn't make it to the Amiga. I just sense that the spec needed to drive this thing would have needed a high end machine and by that date there really wasn't that many with that kinda of Amiga kit to play with.
