I have completed my disk backing up for the Amiga for now and have
been tidying up the boxes. In doing so I have moved on several
occasions this C64 Sound Sampler that appears to have been marooned
within the Amiga storage section. In recovering the tattered and
bashed old box I thought I would record its contents as it had
inside a couple of 5.25" disks. I do have much better versions of
the box and contents, but don't recall the software on 5.25".
First up who are SFX. The company of SFX Computer Software was a
division of the UK corporation Music Sales Limited. The SFX was
originally a Sinclair Spectrum sound sampler from 1982. The design
by Lyndsay Williams and Richard Watts.
The SFX Sound Sampler was sold to Commodore who then commissioned
the Sound Expander. Neither software or modules were the property
of Commodore who did not hold the copyright. Designed and produced
and for the main part sold in the UK expanded the range to include
also the Music Maker keyboard, PlayAlong Songbooks, Sound Studio,
full size external keyboard, Sound Expander "FM SoundModule". The
lay on MusicMaker keyboard was very popular in Germany where there
was even resistance to the new C64C style as it conflicted with
the old 'BreadBin' style of C64.
Eventually SFX moved to MSX and ultimate obscurity.
I was very pleased I took an interest in SFX all those years ago
cus I am fortunate in having the whole set of what they did. The
full size keyboard is truly the longest box I have in the
collection.
Not sure many outside these shores will know who Victoria Wood is,
sadly departed, but the lady on the box always reminds me of her.
OK I can put this little collection away now. Onwards. By the way
do make a note of that PaperBoy card in the MusicMaker box as I
have something of a feature regarding that tomorrow.
